Getting Ready-Three days to go
By Janice Friesen    June 30, 2007 -- 09:09 AM

I haven't shared about the passport fiasco.  I think that was because it might turn out bad, but I have to share it now.

My son is going with us and he did not have a passport.  Through some confusion about his birth certificate and other procrastination of what should be done on time it got too late to get his passport the regular way.  So, we spent the extra money to do a super-expedited version (less than two weeks) with a company on the Internet.

We were sort of frustrated about that until we started looking for our own passports and could not find them ANYWHERE!  We had to do a super-super expedited passport replacement.  So, in the last week everyday we were looking for passports.  Two of them (my husband and mine) came in only 4 days!  Then daily we waited for my sons.  He kept calling and they would tell him that it was done, but there was some delay.  They were pretty sure that he would get it on time.

Then yesterday at 6:15 p.m. we learned that the passport was not released and there was NO way we would get it in time.  We were crushed.  Steve called our son and they talked about what to do now... maybe we could put off his flight for a few days or a week and it would come or maybe he would rather that we just cancel the ticket for now and postpone it for another time and he could travel on his own.  We were all SO disappointed.  He was going to think about it and let us know today.  Steve hung up the phone and in about a minute it rang again.  It was the Passport Express people.  They said that we were the luckiest people in the world.  Only one passport came out of that particular office yesterday and it was our sons!!! They sent it overnight and we received it this morning!!! We are all going!  Hurray!!

So today is the day for getting ready.  We bought Sharfenburger chocolate bars to give as gifts and books to read.  One of them is a collection of Euripedes plays because we are going to go to hear the opera Media in Epidauros!  Now I am really getting excited!
