Happy Holidays!
By Barbara Bray    December 14, 2006 -- 01:09 PM

We want to wish you and everyone in the eCoach community a wonderful holiday and a very Happy New Year!

This time off (if you have time off) is a good time to reflect on the year and what you plan to do next year. This is also a good time to read and maybe write a comment to a blog or blog yourself.

Just finished Small is the New Big by Seth Godin - an interesting compilation of his blogs about the new marketing strategies. The Internet has changed everything. Each chapter is short, on different subjects, but mainly why viral marketing may take over traditional sales and marketing strategies. He talks about the customer as your sales team. Can schools work like this? What happens if schools are all online and have to compete for students?

A Little about Change
One chapter mentions pigeons and how if they are bobbing when they receive food that they think it is their bobbing that brought them the food - soooo they continue bobbing figuring thatís what made the food show up. They wonít change. Godin says people are like pigeons. When something they think is working because of something they have done in the past, they donít want to change. It takes courage to change and a little innovation.

Another book you might want to check out is Freakonomics by Levitt and Dubner. Very interesting! How are school teachers like sumo wrestlers? Some information may insult you or touch a nerve but you can take it.

Weíre changing lots here at eCoach and plan to share some new and exciting features and projects with you after the new year. Wait until you see the new universal builder- ready pretty soon - you will be amazed!!!!

We are taking some time off this holiday from Dec 23rd to January 1st. Weíll be checking in eCoach but may not be able to get back to you right away.

Please share comments on these books or share other books, movies, events, or any thoughts that will help bring in the new year.

WHAT TEACHERS MAKE ?

The dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life.

One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with education. He argued, "Whatís a kid going to learn from someone who decided his best option in life was to become a teacher?"

He reminded the other dinner guests what they say about teachers: "Those who can, do. Those who canít, teach."

To stress his point he said to another guest; "Youíre a teacher, Susan. Be honest. What do you make?"

Susan, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied, "You want to know what I make?"

"I make students work harder than they ever thought they could. I make a C+ feel like the winner of the Congressional Medal of Honor.

You want to know what I make?

I make students wonder.
I make them question.
I make them criticize.
I make them apologize and mean it.
I make them write
I make them read, read, read.
I make them show all their work in math and perfect their final drafts in English.
I make them understand that if you have the brains, and follow your heart, and if someone ever tries to judge you by what you make, you must pay no attention because they just didnít learn."

Susan paused and then continued. "You want to know what I make?

íI MAKE A DIFFERENCE.í What do you make?"

"Teachers make every other profession possible."

Have a great Holiday break!
