Activity Description

The Polar Express is a descriptive and exciting story. In this activity you will map ideas to summarize the story as well as visualize a paragraph from the story and relate your thoughts about the text in writing.




Activity Directions

1. Listen to the story, Polar Express.

2. Go to the Drama Mapping site, map out the story elements: Character, Setting, Conflict and Resolution with your partner.

3. Print out your maps of the story elements.

4. Use your story elements maps to summarize and paraphrase the story as you make a Flip Book.

5. Print out your Flip Book.

6. Next, open the Literary Doodle Paragraphs document.

7. Choose one of the paragraphs to draw, then summarize the paragraph in writing, explain your drawing and then tell how the drawing relates to the paragraph.

8. Print out your Doodle Splash activity.
