Summary
No St. Valentine....Then What? Students will research events in history or call upon mythical recollections in order to answer the essential question: People had the need to establish a holiday to honor love and friendship. Had there never been a St. Valentine, people would have chosen something else to celebrate love and friendship. What might inspire such a holiday? What name would you give to this new holiday? What symbols would you attach to the new holiday?
Students will create a card that will reflect their new holiday.

Rationale
Students need practice in exploring alternative ideas. The graphic organizers will help them organizer their thoughts as they research the essential question. The project will help them work as a team. They will be excited to present their projects and will build pride and ownership as they share it with the class and their families.
