On this first day, do a read aloud of Grace Lin’s "The Ugly Vegetables", followed by a community circle during which a KWL chart will be created, demonstrating what the students think they know about gardens, what they want to know, and what they learned from reading the book, or, this section of the chart could be left blank for completion at the end of the week.
