Who are some people who made a difference in our history and why are those people still important today?
Activities
This is where you get started on your activities. During the course of your project, you will become an expert on a person who has made a difference. Follow each assignment step-by-step and do not hesitate to ask the teacher for clarification.
Choose Your Person

In groups, choose from a list of important people who you would like to research and explain why your group is interested in that person. 

  • What questions do you have about that person? 
  • What do you know about that person? 
  • What do you want to know about that person? 
  • When were they alive? 
  • What did they discover? 
  • Why is that person important?

Choose Your Resources

Each student will choose a book from the library about their person and read during SSR. 

SSR

Each student will read their book from the library about their person and read during SSR.  Students will take notes while reading their books.  Early finishers will research internet sources with teacher. 


Web Sites
Look at the TrackStar web site, find your person, and answer the questions.  You may have to look for your person’s last name.

Answer the questions about your person based on your readings, notes, and resources. When you finish answering the questions, quietly discuss the answers with your groups.

Rough Draft

Get into groups with their questions and resources.  Complete your section on the rough draft page 1, 2, 3, or 4.  Complete section five together and look at the grading scale to make sure your project meets the "must do’s".

Final Draft and Visuals

Check your group’s work on the rough draft and submit it to the teacher for review. After making corrections, you will take turns typing your final draft on Microsoft Word and making the poster.  Two people will work on the poster and two on Microsoft Word.  When the teachers says to switch positions, you will change jobs.  Remember to raise your hand if you have any questions.  When the essay and poster are finished, give them to the teacher.  If everything looks good, you will start on your PowerPoint presentation.

Presentations

Each group will present their PowerPoint presentation and explain their visuals. After the presentation, presenters will call on three classmates for comments or questions. Groups will be given an evaluation form and will reflect on their projects. Students will be graded according to the rubric and participation.
