Bill of Rights
What are your rights as a US citizen?
Fifth Amendment
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

What does this mean?

You can’t be tried for any serious crime without a Grand Jury meeting first to decide whether there’s enough evidence for a trial. And if the jury decides you are innocent, the government can’t try again with another jury. You don’t have to say anything at your trial. You can’t be killed, or put in jail, or fined, unless you were convicted of a crime by a jury. And the government can’t take your house or your farm or anything that is yours, unless the government pays for it.

the fith amendment basically is that you can't be charge of a crime unless there are some evidence of what you did . Fair I would say. though there is times that theres a death penalty. what the heck!

By benisha rivera      December 14, 2010 -- 11:28 AM

By OkeLani P      December 14, 2010 -- 02:17 PM
YOU CAN'T BE BROUGHT IN W/OUT THE GRAND JURY KNOWING IF THEY GOT ENOUGH EVIDENCE FOR A CASE SO IF YOU INOCCENT AND CALLED NOT GUILTY THEN THEY CERTAINLY DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO CALL YOU BACK IN FOR THE SAME CRIME YEARS LATER. THEY CAN'T KILL YOU AND LOCK YOU UP UNLESS YOU WERE CONVITED FOR A CRIME. THEY CAN'T TOUCH YOUR PROPERTY UNLESS THE GOVERMENT PAYS FOR IT.

By Magdiel G      December 14, 2010 -- 02:17 PM
