Troops To Teachers
Meeting The Demand For Teachers And Employing Veterans

  • Troops to Teachers program provides funding for separated and retired military service members to become teachers in "high-poverty schools." These individuals obtain certification or licenses to become primary or secondary school teachers, vocational or technical teachers. The program also helps these individuals find employment after they complete the program.
  • Under the Troops to Teachers program, the Department of Defense for the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) receives funding from the Secretary of Education to provide assistance, including a stipend of up to $5,000 for each eligible members of the military so that they can obtain a certification or license as a primary or secondary school teacher.  Instead of paying the $5,000 stipends, DANTES may pay $10,000 bonuses to members who are willing to teach in high-poverty schools.
