| Free Website Editor |
![]() For years I have kept my eyes open for a free and easy to use Web Page Editor. Personally, I like to use Dreamweaver to create web pages, but it is expensive and I realize that it is way more powerful than most teachers (or even I) need. So, I was thrilled to come upon NVU (pronounced N-View). According to their web site: "Finally!
A complete Web Authoring System for Linux Desktop users as well as
Microsoft Windows and Macintosh users to rival programs like FrontPage
and Dreamweaver. Nvu (pronounced N-view, for a "new
view") makes managing a web site a snap. Now anyone can create web
pages and manage a website with no technical expertise or knowledge of
HTML." ![]() On the NVU web site there are links to a forum, a wiki, a blog and even a chat about the software. The creator of this software wants input and wants to create a useful product. I scanned through the forum and found that there are limitations to NVU, but that it is excellent for creating a simple web page which is what most teachers are interested in doing. ![]()
This will create a folder on your desktop. Just like other website creators, you will want to create a folder for images and possibly for the different subdirectories. If you have experience creating websites, NVU will work the same. ![]() Go To Your Site Folder and save your images to the image folder. Barbara added: "I found that if you know HTML and understand CSS styles, this program will be an easy fit. Some of the instructions are difficult for new users."
