Curriculum Area:
Focus: History/Social Science

Topic:
Egyptian Civilization

Themes:
ancient civilizations, Egypt, geography, human basic needs

Duration:
Students will work 45 to 60 minutes per day for 5 days.
Summary
In this project, students will research the physiographic features of Egypt and determine the area that would be most perfect for a civilization to develop and flourish, based on the environment's ability to meet basic human needs. They will present their research to the class, discuss each group's ideas and decide on the best location.

Rationale
Before studying the history of Egypt and its contribution to the development of our civilization, students need to understand the basic needs of humans and how the environment contributes or detracts from people's ability to survive and thrive. These principles are universal and can be applied to any people any place at any time.
