What did Emperor Qin Achieve and How did he Achieve it?

Instructional Time: 1 hour

Process:
As students are reading the section on the Qin dynasty in their textbook, Ancient Civilizations they are filling out their "T" chart. Students will take notes as the read about what Emperor Qin accomplished during his rule. Students may need to be guided to include: the unification of China, the standardization of weights and measurements and the connection of the Great Wall. Students will then fill out the second column on their charts which includes how Emperor Qin achieved what he did. Again, students may need to be guided to include: Legalist rule, book burning and strict system of rewards and punishments. After completing the reading and the T-chart, students will write about the accomplishments of Emperor Huangdi and how he achieved them.
