My Philosophy I believe that technology has a place in all classrooms and that technology along with a trained teacher and in a supportive environment can help students stay motivated and learn in a unique way. I believe that many students are reached through technology where they may not be reached in other ways.
My Community I live in a growing community southwest of Springfield, MO. The population is around 8,000. Our town has a new community center and is looking forward to getting a new water park this summer. We have a historic downtown with a historical society that is open on Saturdays from 10:00-2:00. Wilson's Creek Historic Battlefield is located nearby. People often say that Republic is a good place to raise children. We still are somewhat of a small hometown community, although we now have a Walmart Supercenter and a Walgreens and many more businesses growing in the area. We have many places to eat (mostly fast food) along the hiway. One of the nicest features in our town is our brand new four lane stretch of hiway on Hwy 60 that goes through town. This project was not supposed to be completed until next fall and is already done, making the people of Republic very happy and proud.
My Environment Our school district consists of six buildings. EC or Early Childhood Center houses Preschool and Kindergarten, as well as Parents As Teachers. E-I houses first and second grades. E-II houses third and fourth grades. E-III houses fifth and sixth grades. Then we have a middle school and a high school. Our district recently purchased land and has plans to build a new high school by the year 2008. In the elementary grades we have approximately 11 classes of each grade level. Many of our teachers went through Great Expecations training this past summer. Our district continues to grow and we often find ourselves shifting buildings as is likely to happen again in the near future.
My Roles and Responsibilities I have taught eMINTS for the past five years, however this year have taken on a new job position in our district. Our district started a Tech Team and I have the position of Technology Teacher. I oversee two elementary computer labs and work on our district webpages, help give training to staff, and teach computer classes for all of the first grade, third grade, and fourth grade classes. I also work with the eMINTS teachers as needed. Our goal is to help teachers integrate technology into their curriculum. Our Tech Team members collaborate with the teachers and the teachers attend computer lab along with the students so that they too may learn to incorporate technology into their curriculum and brush up on their technology skills. Currently we are working on teaching the fourth graders and their teachers how to do PowerPoints. I enjoy teaching PowerPoint and working on the many webpages that I create to use for lessons.

My Philosophy I want all children to have the best opportunities put before them to be able to make life long learning decisions throughout their lives. I believe it all begins with the home, school and the community to help instill these ideas into the children. We as educators must do our part and more to help.
My Community Our town has a population of about 400. We are a rural farming community. We are located in Southwest Missouri about 50 miles north of Joplin and 60 miles south of Kansas City right off of highway 71. They are about 6 or 7 businesses in our town. The largest one being Jones Boot and Twine. The large event in our community is the Sheldon Picnic held in August every year.
My Environment I teach 4th grade at Sheldon Elementary. Our school houses PreK-12 in one building. We have one of each class PreK-6 and one high school teacher per subject. We are basicly a low enconomic district. I have 12 in the 4th grade this year. This is an average size class. Both our 3rd and 4th grade classes have been Emints classrooms since 2001. We currently are a Reading First School and a Professional Learning Communities School. We are in our 1st year of each.
