My Philosophy Teaching young children should be done in small increments of information. NO ONE reads War and Peace on the first day of school. All student learning should be practical and of immediate value.
My Community Our community is rife with poverty and unemployment but rich in natural beauty. We have few places of employment and no coal mines.Our area is sparsely populated and most people work outside the county. Communities are close knit and everyone is related or knows everyone else. We have a county park where the annual fair brings people together.
My Environment We have about 500 students from Pre K to 4th grade and about 60 staff members. Special Ed. and Title I staff serve eligible students. Other resources are the Reading First and Technology grants.
My Roles and Responsibilities I am a Title I teacher. I serve 50 students from K to 2nd grade level.Instruction occurs both in class and when students are pulled out individually.
My Philosophy I believe it is my job to meet students at their current levels and help them to become independent thinkers and readers. Every sutdent comes to school with various background experiences and knowledge, so I must assess their backgrounds and build on them to teach the students to become life-long learners.
My Community The community in which I teach is rural, with small towns existing within the community.
My Environment DCES is the only elementary school in the county. The school serves students from pre-school through fourth grade. We have a special education department, Title I, and speech services available.
My Roles and Responsibilities I teach Title I to K-2. My mornings consist of inclusion in these classrooms, where I work with small groups, whole class, etc. I then provide individual and small group help to approximately 50 students in the afternoons.
My Philosophy To teach children their grade level academic curriculum. To help these students develop socially with their peers and adults with whom they are associated with. To help these students that are below grade le el read their individual attainable goals.
My Community The community in which I teach is rural. It has a county park that is used by individual families,family reunions, individual families, company picnics, 4-H and our own county fair. Small towns within the county exist to provide the residing population with their essential needs. The communities have great pride in their schools and supports their activities. It also has many civic organizations.
My Environment DCES is the only elementary school in this county. We have a competent staff of professional and service personnel. Many of our stlduents are culturally and academically deprived.
My Roles and Responsibilities I teach in the Title 1 reading program. My caseload may be a whole class team teaching situation in which I may have 20-25 students. I also may be in a small group teaching situation. As well, as individual tutoring. My students are in grade K-2.
