MA BUCHE DE NOEL
HOW DO I LEARN FRENCH WHILE COOKING?

What is a Buche de Noel?

It is the traditional French Christmas cake.

It is pronounced: (BOOSH duh noh-EHL) and also called Yule Log because it has the shape of a log.

It is made with sponge cake or "genoise’ and buttercream and sometimes decorated with meringue mushrooms, marzipan and small Christmas figures.

Nobody is credited for inventing the Buche de Noel but its origin dates back to the medieval ages.

About the project:

This project will give students an opportunity to apply the new knowledge previously acquired in the "Food" unit, in an authentic context.

The project will be implemented in two phases:

1) Cooking, filming, presentation phase

Students will be cooking as a team, a traditional Holiday cake, in the setting of their home kitchen. Students will either take digital pictures or film the process.

Students will present their cake to the class, in the target language, the week before Christmas.

Each cake will be entered the "Best cake" contest.

2) Multimedia presentation

Students will present the home cooking activity to the class. They will have the options of using Powerpoint, Photo-Story or Windows Movie Maker.
