Certificated eCoaches Promotion Text I am proud to have been labeled as a “pioneer in school reform”, a “distinguished
educator”, the best "facilitator" in the state of California and a "true statesman," by colleagues and supervisors. Currently I am working with teachers, administrators, school
communities and school districts to create climates where all students can and
do learn. I have a strong focus on learning style as a special
concern for using thoughtful education strategies to develop programs for
underperforming students from all ability levels. In
addition, I am working extensively coaching administrators in developing school
cultures where student achievement is the primary emphasis. Through the hands-on practice of
facilitating in-classroom “teacher rounds”, I have been able to make a significant
impact in school districts that seek to bring professional development into
classroom practice and sustain those practices. During my tenure as Superintendent in a highly multicultural area, I lead a community in gaining the State Board of Education’s approval for the
district's to develop and implement a curriculum that was representative of the
community’s rich diverse cultural heritage. I have also worked with
school districts in helping them develop curriculums that differentiate
instruction with a goal of developing the higher order thinking skills of all students. Further
specialties include certified curriculum auditor; trained executive coach; and
trainer of learning styles and teaching strategies, cooperative learning,
differentiated instruction, reading across the curriculum; online instructor;
and strategic planner.
My Philosophy It has been said that education is the great equalizer. I believe this can be true, but we have fallen short of the goal. As a product of a home where both parents dropped out of school, I am the only one of four who completed college. I thank a teacher for her interest and guidance. When we as teachers take an interest in our learners, they will often learn from us. Once we get them to that point, getting them to learn for the intrinsic rewards becomes easy. Online learning is another venue where education can help equalize our world. Thank you Marcia!
My Community I have taught and worked in every community from high socio-economic, to rural and urban. I live in a community higher in socio-economics then I produce, but also with a high expectation on education. Every child is "expected" to go to college. My home is in the valley looked down upon by Blackhawk, where the Blackhawk Bering Auto Museum Resides. We support a campus of Diablo Valley College and are not far from the sattilite campus of Cal State University EB. UC Berkely, Holy Names, St. Mary's etc. are all within easy commute distance from my home. Within a three mile radius there are four Starbuck coffee shops. Each achieving high economic success.
My Environment My main source of income and benefits is with the Cal State TEACH program. I work out of the Fresno region, but get to work from my home office! We are a part online and part face-face multiple subjects credential program. We started with Web CT, moved to Blackboard and now support a website of our own design, modeled after Blackboard. I also teach online for Chapman University. Recently, I was part of the Master of Arts in Teaching program development committee. We now offer a MAT online.
My Roles and Responsibilities I like the title of Learning Support Faculty. I have been with the program since its inception in 1999. I have coached new teachers, interns and student teachers, I have developed online curriculum; implemented and monitored that curriculum. I have been a private consultant to many under performing schools and school district. The coaching role is what I enjoy best. |

My Philosophy We learn best when we take personal ownership or responsibility for their own learning. When learning styles are identified, we are better able to identify how we learn best, and how we need to stretch ourselves with other learning styles.
My Community I live in Bellingham, Washington which is a small city about 100 miles north of Seattle and about 60 miles south of Vancouver, BC. It is a haven for recreational enthusiasts with hiking, mountain climbing, both water and snow skiing, and numerous golf courses.
My Environment For the past eight years, I worked with the Mt. Baker School District in northwest Washington, and the Grandview School District in central Washington. The EETT grant that funded these projects ended in June of 2007.
