Summary

The Ohlone Native Americans inhabited the central coastal regions of California. This project offers an inside look at how the Ohlone survived for hundreds of years using and respecting earth’s natural resources. Through the activities and lessons presented here, students and teachers alike will be shown the way Native American society was run, from religious beliefs to how food was prepared. You will have the opportunity to discover a new culture and develop an understanding of the way people lived before technology existed. You will see how this country has changed over time and what has influenced these changes. This site is meant to encourage critical thinking about the world that surrounds us.



Rationale

In learning about the past, we are able to better reflect on our present and future. It is imvaluable that we learn about how people in the past lived so that we can work towards a better life for ourselves now and in the future. Through learning about Native American culture, we are able to keep alive a nation of people that have struggled so hard to be heard. Teaching today’s youth about Native American heritage has the ability to inspire them to be more thoughtful individuals.
