Learning from Multicultural Friends
Why is it important to learn from different cultures?
Introduction

From the beginning, we first look at what we know and observe.

Think about yourselves... what do you look like? what are your beliefs? interests? likes and dislikes?

Think about your classmates... what do they look like? where are they from? where do they live? what do they like doing? what do you know about them?

Think about your friends... what do they look like? what do you like to do together?

Think about your families... what do they look like? what countries are they from? where do they live? what traditions do you all have?
Think about our society... what does it look like? what groups do we see in our society? what beliefs does this society have?

This powerpoint will introduce the students to multicultural life in our society. How do you feel about what you learned in this introduction?

Have students go home and ask their families where their families are from. In class the students will locate on the map where their families are from. They will then place flags on these locations. As a class, discuss some of the reasons why our families came here and why other people come here.
