A web browser plugin cooliris provides interactive full-screen slideshows of online images. The software places a small icon in the corner of an image thumbnail when the mouse moves over it. This launches into a full-screen photo viewer when clicked. See Tip.

Gimp  that stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed program for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.

Sumo Paint is a professional and easy to use way to create and edit images within a browser. The software can be downloaded or used directly from Sumo Paint website.
tinyalbum  is "Photo Sharing Made Easy".  It allows users to post unlimited original images and maintain their size and resolution (up to 8mb each). Users can create public albums, or post private, password-protected images and albums.
Tuxpaint is a free, open-source painting tool that will take you back to the early KidPix days. It runs on both platforms and is a lot of fun.
