1 lesson of month-long Unit on World War II

The objective of this lesson is to have students incorporate analysis, critical thought, and perspective into their study of World War II.

Finding one’s voice is a challenge for many writers. In this lesson, students use photographs from World War II to explore the concept of voice.

Students will use brainstorming techniques to explore the tone and content of the photograph.The use of first person narration will convey decisions he or she has made about a person (people) in the photograph. Students will create a sense of the "speaker" in the photograph - including the person’s feelings and mood, thoughts at the moment, age, and origin.
