The trainer may apply the following modules and activities can be expanded or omitted for time. The PowerPoint under the Theory section of this training has an accompanying VoiceThread.
- Opening and Introductions: This activity will create a welcoming and engaging environment for learners. Objectives will be clearly stated to give learners a clear understanding of the project activities.
- Trainer will welcome learners, discuss prerequisite skills, and introduce the content of the training.
- Trainer shows examples of VoiceThread work and rationale.
- Display VoiceThread Introductions.
- Technology Integration: This activity will help teachers understand more about technology integration. Technology integration does not have to be a complex task in need of supplemental instruction. Technology integration can be as simple as including a website, Word, or PowerPoint component. It can be a complex set of digital media of global project-based learning.
- What is technology integration?
- Trainer shows examples of student work and rationale.
- Discussion of California Standards for the Teaching Profession.
- Effective Uses of Technology in Schools
- VoiceThread Tutorial: This activity will train teachers in using the basic tools of VoiceThread.
- Introduction to VoiceThread
- Creating a VoiceThread
- Issues to Consider
- Uses in an Educational Setting
- PBL and Backward Design: Teachers apply learning to real-world situations and understand the concept of Backward Design. Higher order thinking skills produce enduring understandings. Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe refer to these “big ideas” as meaningful learning and help students transfer their knowledge from school to life.
- My eCoach Tutorial: My eCoach is another effective teacher tool to communicate information with other educators and has great project builders and templates. Projects will be posted on My eCoach to encourage collaboration amongst educators and promote valuable design practices. Teachers will learn about the effectiveness of the builders and the many resources My eCoach offers its members.
- Trainer will log onto My eCoach: https://my-ecoach.com/
- Discuss online projects and resources available on My eCoach.
- Creation of builder with learners.
- Give teachers a project planning template and option to “clone” the website and apply its contents to their existing projects and curricula: https://my-ecoach.com/project.php?id=12534
- Project Samples: To give learners ideas and resources, examples of projects with minimal to moderate technology integration will be shown to learners. Project samples can be used by teachers in their own classrooms and modified to meet their needs. They are fantastic ways of demonstrating expectations to students and inspiring ideas. The following project links are on the sidebar of the training website:
- Using Digital Cameras: Digital cameras have learning applications and can be used in various projects. Therefore, learners will be given ideas on how to use digital cameras in projects.
- Teachers will take pictures with a digital camera and insert images into their projects and profile.
- Trainer will teach learners effective use of digital cameras in the classrooms and with students.
- Choosing the Best Multimedia: Trainer and learner will consider the best digital tools for projects. Choosing the best multimedia is important to effective technology integration. Learners will acquire skills and information for choosing multimedia for their projects and activities.
- Learners should be finishing up project guidelines or plan.
- Saving everything digitally may involve students scanning artwork, using a digital camera and a video camera, and word processing text.
- Digital Storytelling: Digital storytelling is becoming an increasingly popular classroom activity. Learners will be given brief exposure to digital storytelling and directed to a fantastic website as a design tool. They may revisit the website and have access to self-paced instruction for those who would like use it.
- Digital Storytelling is a magnificent way to engage students and to encourage creativity.
- Project Management: In groups, learners will share how they manage projects and describe what works well in their classrooms and some challenges they face. Pacing and classroom management are vital considerations when completing projects. Teachers regularly have great experience in classroom management and may benefit greatly from exchanging ideas from one another.
- What to do Before You Start the Project
- Starting the project
- Creating the Final Product
- Concluding the Project
- Closure: Surveys are distributed to individuals in order to gain feedback. Communication tools are provided for additional support and project achievement. Discussion will conclude with explanation of additional references and support that goes beyond the training, in order to further implementation and promote networking.
- Project commitments and resources.
- Instructor may discuss My eCoach team and methods for conducting project reviews.
- Once projects are published, team members can view the team projects and offer online support.
