Examining Theme in Literature
Why is theme so important to a story?
Understanding the theme of a story is important for students to connect their own past experiences to what they are reading.  By setting up these connections, it allows for a deeper understanding of the content being learned in the classroom.  In this project, students looked at theme across a set of high interest level picture books and used those universal themes to create comicstrips connecting the themes from the literature to their own experiences and ideas.
