Bill of Rights
What are your rights as a US citizen?
Sixth Amendment
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense.

What does this mean?

If youíre arrested, you have a right to have your trial pretty soon, and the government canít keep you in jail without trying you. The trial has to be public, so everyone knows what is happening. The case has to be decided by a jury of ordinary people from your area. You have the right to know what you are accused of, to see and hear the people who are witnesses against you, to have the government help you get witnesses on your side, and you have the right to a lawyer to help you.

You can have a speedy trial when in a jury

By Silkquoiah H.      December 14, 2010 -- 09:21 AM
this means that you cannot bee charge w/ double jeopardy , self incrimination , or due to process of law and due to process of law means you cant have your liberty, life or property taken w/o a fair trial .

This protects you in the court system. This also means that you can't be tried in court without knowing what you are accused of. When a police officer arrest you he has to tell you that you have a right to a lawyer. Also the court cannot keep the trial hidden.
