Becoming Another Person: Character Transformation
How does an actor effectively portray another person?
1. What is a character?

Every person you meet in life is a character. Every person has vocal and physical characteristics, as well as individual quirks, that define them... that separate them from others.

You are a character! The details that make up the whole of you are unique to you, they separate you from others, even those who are like you in many respects.

In theatre, what separates you from a character is that you are a performer, someone who takes on the attributes of another person, the voice, the physical traits and the quirks. If it is a scripted performance, you also take on the lines of another person.
