Snowboarding Origins

Snowboarding is a winter sport that involves descending a slope that is covered with snow while standing on a board attached to a rider’s feet, using a special boot set into a mounted binding.The development of snowboarding was inspired by skateboarding. It was developed in the United States in the 1960s and became a Winter Olympic sport in 1998.

 Women’s Slopestyle Snowboarding In the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, one event that really was a show-stopper. That event was Women’s Slopestyle Snowboarding  held on February 9th, 2014. The gold medalist was Jamie Anderson from Team USA. The silver medalist was Ennu Rukajarvi from Team Finland. Finally, the bronze medalist was Jenny Jones from Team Britain. This was the first year that Women’s Slopestyle Snowboarding was in the Olympics and Team USA took gold! In the first heat Torah Bright took the lead. The qualified boarders going into the finals were Isabel Derungs (82.50), Torah Bright (85.25), Spencer O’Brien (82.75), and Ennu Rukajarva (79.00). In the second heat Jamie Anderson pulled away with a score of 93.50. The finalists were Anna Gasser (89.50), Jamie Anderson 93.50), Elena Koenz (86.25), and Karly Shorr (45.00). But in the end, Jamie was our golden girl with a final score of 95.25!!  reported by Anya K.
