Around 1907 Pablo Picasso and his friend Georges Braque began a whole new type of art called "Cubism." It is called this because what the artist creates looks like it’s been broken up into little cubes. Sometimes Cubist paintings looked very much like the real object. Other times it was very difficult to see what the subject of the painting was. It took great imagination to make a real object look completely different.
