Read, Write the Blues: Sing America's Music
Ok it's sad. So why is everyone still singing it?

Who started Blues?

Slaves brought to America were the originators of Blues music. Slaves during the long days of work on the field would sing woefully to one another about sadness in their lives. They would sing back and forth in a call and response. One slave would sing a short phrase and another would respond. This was called a field hollering. A field holler was a slave singing about the deplorable working and living conditions. Someone would hear the field holler and sing back in agreement. Since very early on, Blues music was always like a conversation, even if just between two instruments.
