In 1848, the Mexican-American War ended with signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

This treaty, between the Mexicans and Americans, established the current USA-Mexico Border and divided California from Mexico.

The Americans and Mexicans in 1848 cut their international border through the heart of the ancestral homelands the Kumeyaay indigenous people have occupied for some 12,000 years.

These North America border regions are known today as Southern California and Baja California Norte.
